Dutch National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out DayDutch Cabinet is pulling out the funds for Gay Emancipation according to NOS.nl. According to Minister Ronald Plasterk a lot has been accomplished but that the emancipation of gay people is not done yet.

He is especially worried about the still existing outings of hatred, intimidation and violence against gay people.

He wants to have a National Coming Out Day on October 11th, following in the footsteps of originator Dr. Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary who founded NCOD in 1988 in the United States in celebration of the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights one year earlier, in which 500,000 people marched on Washington, DC, for gay and lesbian equality.

Next to NCOD, Plasterk also wants to give out a bi annual gay emancipation award. Plasterk is going to raise the budget for social acceptation for gays and lesbians from 1 million to 2,5 million euro.

According to Plastkerk the entire Cabinet, including the CristianUnion, is fully behind the proposals. “I didn’t have to fight this in front of the gates of Hell.”
