Idols Live Show 5: Musicals

Another Saturday, another Idols Live Show. This weeks theme is ‘Musical’. With the exception of Grease, I hate musicals, well correct that I hate the Dutch versions of perfectly fine musicals. So as a start this recap will be more grumpy sounding already because of that.

note: Most of the songs are sung in Dutch, if I am able to find the English titles of them I will post them instead, otherwise you’re stuck with the Dutch ones.

The Performances

Neil (You’ll Be In My Heart - Tarzan (Dutch Version))
My god. I will not go on about translating good English in Dutch. I have ranted enough about that in the text above. This was so off-key it made my toes curl. I give the judges that the boy is looking better each week, but please, shut him up.

Nathalie (De Dans Van De Mantel - Aida)

Okay, that was surprisingly well done. Then again, Nathalie is the kind of performer that can do pretty much anything well. Love, Love, Love the outfit. At a quick first glance she sort of looked like Erykah Badu, just better proportioned.

Tiffany (When You Believe - )
I am truly sorry, I absolutely did not like this performance. Very off key.

Nikki (Climb Every Mountain - Sound Of Music)

Nikki chose the song as a tribute to a mentor who passed away. It was a perfect tribute (save for that tiny slip up because of the emotions, but that didn’t take away from the performance, it only made it stronger); the emotions Nikki had with the song came through perfect. Not to mention she looked HOT.

Charlene (Circle Of Life - The Lion King (dutch version))

She started a little to low for my taste, but she flowed into a higher note perfectly. One of my favorite performances of the night.

Nigel (I Only Want To Say (Gethsemane) - Jesus Christ Superstar)
When the hell are they going to vote this guy off? It was one of his better performances, but it is still chilling, in the bad way. He did however gave a killer last note.

Bas (Bij Mij Moet Je Zijn - Tark (Tarzan))
He should have been voted off in the first show. That’s it.

Pauline (Don’t Cry For Me Argentina - Evita)
That went surprisingly well. She absolutely did a great job. I’ve never been a fan of this song, but she made it bearable.

The Results

I have to say. I was quite surprised by all of the candidates today.

The candidates going through to the next round are (in order of being safe for the next show):

  • Nathalie
  • Pauline
  • Nikki
  • Charlene
  • Nigel
  • Neil
  • Tiffany

All I can say is that the Dutch audience finally voted off the right person: Bas

Next weeks theme… The Brits! Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Spice Girls, Robbie Williams… who knows what this will turn out to be.
