Idols Live Show 10: Radio 538

There is absolutely one thing we can definitely say about this show; it was absolutely fantastic. This time the candidates did not choose their own songs, but the DJ’s from Radio Station ‘Radio 538‘ chose their songs. They certainly chose well.

Round 1
Nathalie (Booty Luv - Some Kind of Rush)
It is a good thing that Nathalie has the voice because it was definitely not the song. I absolutely do not like the song but Nathalie brought it to a new, better level and made it her own and did a fantastic job.

Charlene (Colbie Caillat - Bubbly)
I adore the song Bubbly; Colbie Caillat is one of my favorite new artists. I was not quite sure what it was, but I did not appreciate the song as much as I thought I would.

Nikki (Krezip - All My Life)
My god. I got goosebumps with this song. I have to say I do not like the original song. I love the group Krezip, but not so much this song. Nikki brought the song to a new height. As one of the jurors said, she takes the song in her and pours it out through every pore of her body.

Round 2
Nathalie (Alicia Keys - No One)
Gosh, despite her voice, which is fantastic, I did not particularly like the song. Which, in part, has to do with Alicia Keys because I usually love her songs, but this does nothing for me. However I have to say that Nathalie did a great job, it was more me not liking the song.

(video not uploaded)
Charlene (Riannah - Shut Up And Drive)
That song is horrifying. I can’t say anything else about it. Don’t get me wrong, Charlene rocked it and made it bearable, but I absolutely did not like the song.

Nikki (Faith Evans - Mesmerize)
How does she get better every damn week? This was absolutely fantastic. Not only I was rocking on my couch, but at least one of the jurors was dancing.

The results

In order of getting through to the next round and with the most points.

  1. Nikki
  2. Nathalie

Next week is going to be one heck of a finale. I do have to admit that I would have preferred Charlene in the finale because Nikki and Charlene were my two favorites. But I wish both Nikki and Nathalie good luck, they both deserved to be in the finale.

Idols Live Show 9: Big Band

This weeks theme is Big Band, and even when you are just sitting on your couch in your living room it gives you that little extra tingle. I’ve had that with every Big Band Live Shows from Idols and I can’t agree more with the judges that, by far, this years candidates go beyond all the other candidates together from the previous shows.

The performances

(Round 1)
Charlene (Aretha Franklin - R.E.S.P.E.C.T)
I absolutely adore her voice, very refreshing and it lends itself to the theme. Give the girl some respect indeed.

Nikki (Amy Winehouse - Valerie)
The girl amazes me each and every week. Even with songs I do not like as much she made it something special.

Nigel (Dean Martin - Sway)
I gotta say, he did his best and succeeded somewhat. I actually liked his performance.

Nathalie (Shirley Bassey - Big Spender)
Girl can sing. Wasn’t to thrilled about her performance, but she can belt out that voice damn fine.

(Round 2)
Charlene (Rose Royce - Car Wash)
Job well done. And like she said during the song, this would sound absolutely whack in Dutch.

Nikki (Tom Jones - (I) Who Have Nothing)
This is one of those songs that fit Nikki perfectly and in which she can show just how powerful her voice is. Brought a tear to my eyes. Singing songs like this is telling a story, you have to make people believe. She makes people believe, she tells the story witch such power, you think she’s telling it to you.

Nigel (Alicia Keys - If I Ain’t Got You)
Nice, another job well done. The song is not made for a male voice, in my opinion, but he did it quite nice.Nathalie (Tina Turner & Ike Turner - Proud Mary (Original by Creedence Clearwater Revival))
Woman can ROCK. Damn fine performance. Not many can do what Tina does, but Nathalie gave it a good try.

The Results

They switched it around a little today as well. The actually told us who got the most votes, something they have not done since the beginning.

  1. Nikki - Of course our girl got the most votes. I’d would have been surprised if she hadn’t her performances were absolutely brilliant.
  2. Nathalie - With her grand performance of tonight she deserved to go through.
  3. Charlene - With the addition of Charlene to our top three this competition will reach new heights next week.

I have to say that I am not sorry to see Nigel go, simply for the reason that the girls are better then him. If Nigel had been upped his game earlier in the competition, who knows where it could have ended up.

Idols Live Show 8: Love Songs

While we’re all still recovering from last week’s shock, we’re heating it up with this week’s theme “Love Songs”. And they won’t be heating it up just once, the candidates will be singing two songs.

The Performances
Because the candidates won’t sing both songs after each other, the below listing is of order of performing the songs.

Nikki (River Deep, Mountain High - Ike & Tina Turner)
That woman can not fail. Another fantastic performance by a fantastic singer.

Nigel Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers
Very monotone performance.

Nathalie I’m Outta Love - Anastacia
I do not know what happened with her; I was not able to enjoy this. The performance was over the top.

Charlene Run To You - Whitney Housten
That was wonderful, just wonderful. She definitely picked it up since the last two weeks. Fantastic.

Neil I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
This is definitely not his night. He got off on the wrong foot and it didn’t stop there. He slipped, he fell and never got up.

Nikki From This Moment On - Shania Twain
I like Shania Twain, but I do not love the song. Nikki did what she could with it and she brought it like she always does.

Nigel My Love - Justin Timberlake
No one should sing that song BUT Justin Timberlake. I just can’t stress it enough, if he was a dancer then yes, but this, no.

Nathalie Unbreak My Heart - Toni Braxton
I seriously I have no idea what happened; I love Nathalie, I love her personality, but this just did not get me.

Charlene True To Your Heart - 98 Degrees & Stevie Wonder
She’s back. She is definitely back. Not only did she bring her voice, but she actually enjoyed performing.

Neil Can’t Hurry Love - Phill Collins
Damn. That just sucked. Nothing else to say.

The Results
In order of going through to the next round.

  • Nikki
  • Charlene
  • Nigel
  • Nathalie

It took the audience about eight tries but they finally voted off Neil.

Now the real competition can begin.

Idols Live Show 7: The Dutch

It is Saturday Evening which means it is time for another Dutch Idols Live Show. This weeks theme is Dutch Songs. Let me tell you this from the start, I am absolutely no fan of Dutch songs, the singers yes, the actual language not so much. The hard part of singing in Dutch is pronunciation of the words.

There is the occasional one off that I actually do like, namely by artists such as Marco Borsato, Do and Trijntje Oosterhuis and Andre Hazes

Charlene (De Bestemming - Marco Borsato)
I am not to sure what I thought, she had an occasional slip-up, but she brings the voice and there is still something with her that she doesn’t let out. Especially because this was one the harder songs by Marco Borsato.

Pauline (Zij Gelooft in Mij - Andre Hazes)
Andre Hazes is a unique artist and I think Pauline did a great version of the song. Surprisingly well.

Neil (Doe Dit, Doe Dat -Jim (Runner Up of the first Idols)
He sounds so damn nasal each and every time and I can’t stand that. At some points I could not even hear what the heck he was singing during the chorus. At least he did not slip up.

Nikki (Afscheid - Volumia!)
For someone who has never sung in Dutch, that was absolutely amazing, it gave me goosebumps. It brought me to tears. And I was not the only one. Once again the audience and the judges gave her a standing ovation and were moved to tears as well.

Nathalie (Vrede - Ruth Jacott)
She brings her voice, but I absolutely did not like the song, and she was too low on some points. Nathalie should not have to worry if she ever decides to sing in Dutch, despite the accent when she talks, it gives her a unique sound when singing.

Nigel (Heerlijk - Alain Clark)
Damn him! Where the hell did he pull that one from?! That, for once, was a fantastic performance.

(for more of tonight performances, either go to Idols.nl or DarkGenic’s YouTube Channel)

The Results

They pulled an incredible switcharoo tonight. They put the three best candidates on the chairs; Nathalie, Nikki and Nigel. They got the most votes of the night.

Charlene, Pauline and Neil got the least votes.

Pauline got voted off this time, which is an absolute shame. Neil should have been voted off out of those three. The only reason he got to go through is because idiotic teen girls voted for him because he looks ‘pretty’. This is not what this damn competition is about!

I am not the only one pissed about this; Gordon, one of the more controversial judges walked out of the studio mere seconds after the results came in.

A perfect protest for an ending like this.

Next week: Love songs

Idols Live Show 6: The Brits

We had our ‘neighbors’ over for an evening. We had some rock, some ballads and we had a couple of boy and girl groups.

Pauline (Weak - Skunk Anansie)
That quite surprised me, I did not know if Pauline would be able to do this because Skin has such an incredible powerful voice that is hard to top, but Pauline pulled it off quite well.

Neil (One Love - Blue)
When is he going to be voted off? I mean he’s cute and all (if you go for that), but he doesn’t have the voice, there is to much vibration in it.

Nikki (Bleedin’ Love - Leona Lewis)
Forget Leona Lewis! We have Nikki! My god that was a beautiful rendition of Leona’s song. I did not think it was possible to top her performance from last week’s show, but she damn well did it. I’ve heard the original by Leona Lewis only after I heard Nikki sing it, and I have to say that Nikki was definitely an equal to the original, dare I say topping it.

Tiffany (Stronger - Sugababes)
An improvement from last week; you could see she was a lot more comfortable and a lot more confident.

Charlene (Runaway - Jamiroquai)
Well her song choice was definitely not the best, but she the voice was absolutely there.

Nigel (Somewhere Only We Know - Keane)
That started off quite okay, somewhat shaky on the higher notes and some of the lower points. Somewhere near the end he faltered and was a little to brave.

Nathalie (I’m Still Standing - Elton John)
Unfortunately this is the first time I have to say that I did not like Nathalie’s performance. I can’t say what was wrong, but I did not ‘feel’ the performance like I have done with all her other performances.

(for more of tonight performances, either go to Idols.nl or DarkGenic’s YouTube Channel)

The Results
The candidates going through to the next live show are (in order of being safe).

  • Nikki
  • Pauline
  • Nathalie
  • Charlene
  • Neil
  • Nigel

Tiffany had to bite the dust this time. Let’s hope next week one of the boys does get to go home, because this is getting ridiculous. The Dutch voters are once again sending home people that should have gotten through another round.
