Idols Live Show 11: The Finale

Ladies and Gentlemen, it has been a long and entertaining ride and we finally arrived at the finals. Nikki and Nathalie are the two ladies left to battle for that title of new Dutch Idol 2008.

Idols Live Show 11: The Finale

Tonight the lovely ladies will be singing a duet, a song with an artist, their own personal favorite from past shows and the new original that one of these ladies gets to bring out on single. Read more »

Idols Live Show 10: Radio 538

There is absolutely one thing we can definitely say about this show; it was absolutely fantastic. This time the candidates did not choose their own songs, but the DJ’s from Radio Station ‘Radio 538‘ chose their songs. They certainly chose well.

Round 1
Nathalie (Booty Luv - Some Kind of Rush)
It is a good thing that Nathalie has the voice because it was definitely not the song. I absolutely do not like the song but Nathalie brought it to a new, better level and made it her own and did a fantastic job.

Charlene (Colbie Caillat - Bubbly)
I adore the song Bubbly; Colbie Caillat is one of my favorite new artists. I was not quite sure what it was, but I did not appreciate the song as much as I thought I would.

Nikki (Krezip - All My Life)
My god. I got goosebumps with this song. I have to say I do not like the original song. I love the group Krezip, but not so much this song. Nikki brought the song to a new height. As one of the jurors said, she takes the song in her and pours it out through every pore of her body.

Round 2
Nathalie (Alicia Keys - No One)
Gosh, despite her voice, which is fantastic, I did not particularly like the song. Which, in part, has to do with Alicia Keys because I usually love her songs, but this does nothing for me. However I have to say that Nathalie did a great job, it was more me not liking the song.

(video not uploaded)
Charlene (Riannah - Shut Up And Drive)
That song is horrifying. I can’t say anything else about it. Don’t get me wrong, Charlene rocked it and made it bearable, but I absolutely did not like the song.

Nikki (Faith Evans - Mesmerize)
How does she get better every damn week? This was absolutely fantastic. Not only I was rocking on my couch, but at least one of the jurors was dancing.

The results

In order of getting through to the next round and with the most points.

  1. Nikki
  2. Nathalie

Next week is going to be one heck of a finale. I do have to admit that I would have preferred Charlene in the finale because Nikki and Charlene were my two favorites. But I wish both Nikki and Nathalie good luck, they both deserved to be in the finale.

Idols Live Show 9: Big Band

This weeks theme is Big Band, and even when you are just sitting on your couch in your living room it gives you that little extra tingle. I’ve had that with every Big Band Live Shows from Idols and I can’t agree more with the judges that, by far, this years candidates go beyond all the other candidates together from the previous shows.

The performances

(Round 1)
Charlene (Aretha Franklin - R.E.S.P.E.C.T)
I absolutely adore her voice, very refreshing and it lends itself to the theme. Give the girl some respect indeed.

Nikki (Amy Winehouse - Valerie)
The girl amazes me each and every week. Even with songs I do not like as much she made it something special.

Nigel (Dean Martin - Sway)
I gotta say, he did his best and succeeded somewhat. I actually liked his performance.

Nathalie (Shirley Bassey - Big Spender)
Girl can sing. Wasn’t to thrilled about her performance, but she can belt out that voice damn fine.

(Round 2)
Charlene (Rose Royce - Car Wash)
Job well done. And like she said during the song, this would sound absolutely whack in Dutch.

Nikki (Tom Jones - (I) Who Have Nothing)
This is one of those songs that fit Nikki perfectly and in which she can show just how powerful her voice is. Brought a tear to my eyes. Singing songs like this is telling a story, you have to make people believe. She makes people believe, she tells the story witch such power, you think she’s telling it to you.

Nigel (Alicia Keys - If I Ain’t Got You)
Nice, another job well done. The song is not made for a male voice, in my opinion, but he did it quite nice.Nathalie (Tina Turner & Ike Turner - Proud Mary (Original by Creedence Clearwater Revival))
Woman can ROCK. Damn fine performance. Not many can do what Tina does, but Nathalie gave it a good try.

The Results

They switched it around a little today as well. The actually told us who got the most votes, something they have not done since the beginning.

  1. Nikki - Of course our girl got the most votes. I’d would have been surprised if she hadn’t her performances were absolutely brilliant.
  2. Nathalie - With her grand performance of tonight she deserved to go through.
  3. Charlene - With the addition of Charlene to our top three this competition will reach new heights next week.

I have to say that I am not sorry to see Nigel go, simply for the reason that the girls are better then him. If Nigel had been upped his game earlier in the competition, who knows where it could have ended up.

Entertainment Roundup | 01/15/2008

Miley Cyrus inappropriately in headlines again.

Adding yet another ‘what the f’ moment to her list, Miley Cyrus and dad Billy Ray Cyrus were caught not wearing seat belts in a scene of her new movie Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour. Miley and Dad have since then apologized for the mishap “We got caught up in the moment of filming, and we made a mistake and forgot to buckle our seatbelts. Seatbelt safety is extremely important.”

The Queen of Soul lashes out at the Queen

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, lashed out at Beyoncé for calling Tina Turner ‘The Queen’ during her introduction of Tina on the Grammy Awards Broadcast.

“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé,” Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. “However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”

Eh? Who’s stepping on who’s toes here? I think this might be a case of an overgrown ego. Beyonce didn’t even say ‘Queen of Soul’ she simply introduced Miss Tina as ‘The Queen’. Check it out for yourself.

See, there was no mentioning of Soul anywhere. Beyonce just said “give it up for the queen.” And a queen she is indeed!

Listen to this: Mandy Moore

I just got a little taste of Mandy Moore’s song Gardenia off her new album Wild Hope and I got chills. Good chills. I like Mandy Moore, she’s one of the few artists that stays true and down to earth (from what I’ve seen). The song is co-written by Mandy and Chantal Kreviazuk, who has co-written numerous songs for other artists.

Listen to it below.

Is it really over now?

It seems that after three grueling months with no good television the WGA strike may finally be over. WGA leades have approved a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, and have ordered their allies to end the picketing at once.

Thank god I say. I don’t know how much longer I could have gone on DVD reruns. I didn’t even start on the reality shows, now that is addiction I really didn’t want to get into.

That’s Hot! Absolutely NOT!

Paris Hilton on the L Word. Really now. The only good thing about that is the possibility of a sixth season of the L Word. Which is not even secured yet. Though viewer percentage went up by 20% this season, there has yet to be an official announcement that there will be a sixth season.

I say again; Paris Hilton, really now? What the hell are they hoping to accomplish with that? Well except maybe have that 20% drop again with the next season. Who cares about Paris Hilton. I certainly don’t and I know of a couple more who don’t give a damn if Paris is on the show. Unless you need some blond girl to stand around and say ‘That’s Hot’ all the time I really don’t see why they would even consider having her on the show.

Before we forget

Our personal favorite Nikki Kerkhof has quite the fan base. Not only did her official site get a complete make-over, but a fan site has been brought to life as well.

Speaking of Nikki, be sure to check back Saturday for a review of the 9th Dutch Idols Live Show. This weeks theme is Jazz!

Idols Live Show 8: Love Songs

While we’re all still recovering from last week’s shock, we’re heating it up with this week’s theme “Love Songs”. And they won’t be heating it up just once, the candidates will be singing two songs.

The Performances
Because the candidates won’t sing both songs after each other, the below listing is of order of performing the songs.

Nikki (River Deep, Mountain High - Ike & Tina Turner)
That woman can not fail. Another fantastic performance by a fantastic singer.

Nigel Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers
Very monotone performance.

Nathalie I’m Outta Love - Anastacia
I do not know what happened with her; I was not able to enjoy this. The performance was over the top.

Charlene Run To You - Whitney Housten
That was wonderful, just wonderful. She definitely picked it up since the last two weeks. Fantastic.

Neil I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
This is definitely not his night. He got off on the wrong foot and it didn’t stop there. He slipped, he fell and never got up.

Nikki From This Moment On - Shania Twain
I like Shania Twain, but I do not love the song. Nikki did what she could with it and she brought it like she always does.

Nigel My Love - Justin Timberlake
No one should sing that song BUT Justin Timberlake. I just can’t stress it enough, if he was a dancer then yes, but this, no.

Nathalie Unbreak My Heart - Toni Braxton
I seriously I have no idea what happened; I love Nathalie, I love her personality, but this just did not get me.

Charlene True To Your Heart - 98 Degrees & Stevie Wonder
She’s back. She is definitely back. Not only did she bring her voice, but she actually enjoyed performing.

Neil Can’t Hurry Love - Phill Collins
Damn. That just sucked. Nothing else to say.

The Results
In order of going through to the next round.

  • Nikki
  • Charlene
  • Nigel
  • Nathalie

It took the audience about eight tries but they finally voted off Neil.

Now the real competition can begin.
