Killer Opening Weekend for Saw IV
In its debut weekend, Saw IV killed its opponents with a $32.1 M lead. Keeping the series’ Halloween franchise alive, only falling a $1.5M behind its predecessor Saw III, which had a debut weekend of $33.6 M.
Coming in short at No. 2 with $12.1M, and also in its debut weekend, was ‘Dan In Real Life‘; A story about widower raising three daughters and falls for his brother’s new girlfriend during a family reunion.
Since the series’ starter Saw in 2004, Lionsgate has come out with a new shocker every October. This time around, the chapter revolves around two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez; who, after hearing the news of Detective Kerry’s death, assist the veteran Detective Hoffman sifting through Jigsaw’s latest grizzly remains and piecing together the puzzle.
But when SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences.
I certainly enjoyed the first three parts and will watch part IV as soon as it becomes available. if the numbers are a sign then I am in for a good one. I just hope that they can keep up the story lines, I almost expect them to come out with a new chapter each year as they have been doing so far.
It is gruesome, it is enthralling. It scores big at the box office. Does this say something about people in general? Perhaps.
As long as there is a need for people watching others getting gruesomely murdered, then films like these will be made and people will pay to watch them.
