After drinking a bottle of whiskey, a 54-year-old woman wandered to the railroad tracks and tried to wave a Union Pacific freight train to a stop.

When asked why she did this, the woman, Deborah Thompson, told authorities that she was “just being silly.”

Though Thompson was knocked away 20 to 30 yards; she was conscious and talking after the incident. She suffered head injuries and a fractured thigh bone.

And I am surprised that she didn’t keel over after drinking an entire bottle of whiskey.

How stupid can you be?

Okay with a bottle of whiskey you can get pretty damn stupid.

In the midst of a ton of other potentially harmful Chinese products, China has a new ‘rage’; Used condoms as hair bands. Yes, you read that right, used condoms. They are being recycled into cheap hair bands.

The bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.

“These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well … threatening the health of local people.”

Despite being recycled, the bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, “People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,” the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying.

A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said.

A government official was quoted as saying recycling condoms was illegal.

China’s manufacturing industry has been repeatedly tarnished this year by a string of scandals involving shoddy or dangerous goods made for both domestic and foreign markets.

In response, it launched a public relations blitz this summer aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems.

Why the heck do you even want to recycle used condoms for hair bands? Isn’t there some other material that can be used? I’d have a huge time trying to keep my meals in my stomach at the thought of having to use a used condom.
